Perhaps the most famous of all the Scottish glens, Glen Coe will forever be associated with the Massacre which took place in 1692; when an army of 120 men under the command of Robert Campbell of Glenlyon slaughtered 38 members of the Clan MacDonald in their beds. While the Glen Coe visitor centre is well worth a visit to find out more about the glens bloody past, Glen Coe is also one of the most scenic glens in Scotland, with breathtaking mountain views in all directions and plenty of great walks.
The glen is home to several munros and includes one of the most challenging ridge walks on mainland Britain – the Aonach Eagach ridge – which connects 2 of the glen’s highest peaks. Alanach / Flickr
There are a wide range of outdoor activities available all year round at the Glen Coe Mountain Resort; from mountain biking and orienteering in the Summer, to skiing and snowboarding in the Winter.
