Visit Scotland: The Commando Memorial, Spean Bridge

Unveiled in September 1952, the memorial features three bronze Commandos, dressed in typical World War 2 uniforms, and was built to commemorate the 1,700 commandos who lost their lives in the war. An inscription on the plinth reads ‘In memory of the officers and men of the Commandos who died in the Second World War 1939–1945. This country was their training ground.’.

From an elevated position, the view from the memorial takes in multiple Munros, including the UK’s highest peak, Ben Nevis and is quite simply stunning – no matter what the weather brings.
