Imagine spending half of your life in prison for a crime you didn’t commit. Well, that’s exactly what happened to Michael Hanline, who spent 36 years in jail, between 1978 and 2014 on a charge of first degree murder. After a 15 year effort from his attorneys and the California Innocence project, Hanline was freed last year when his conviction was overturned – DNA evidence and new witness testimony proving that he was innocent. This touching video from the California Innocence Project shows the day Hanline was finally released, and his first hours of freedom.
