Why It’s Perfect…

[adsense-inline]The 2 1/2 hour  final episode of M*A*S*H was first aired as a television movie back in 1983 and was titled ‘Goodbye, Fairwell and Amen’. Watched by an incredible 105.97 million viewers, the episode was the most watched broadcast in US television history and remained so until 2010, when it was finally surpassed by  Super Bowl XLIV.
The plot focuses on the final few days of the Korean war and shows the effects of the war on the members of the 4077th. After the ceasefire, the members are seen taking down the camp before several tear-filled goodbyes.
In the final scene Hawkeye takes off in a helicopter and looks down at a note left for him by B.J. on the ground in huge letters, which simply says ‘GOODBYE’. The iconic theme tune kicks in and there’s not a dry eye left in the house.
