Whether you are a golfer or not, a visit to the Old Course at St. Andrews is a must on any tour of Scotland.
Despite its fame, St. Andrews remains a public course and anyone with a handicap (24 for men and 36 for women) can play – although you should book well in advance to secure a tee time.
Those who don’t fancy a round themselves can wander freely round the course, or enjoy a peaceful drink in one of the hotels that overlook the famous 18th green.
St. Andrews itself is a beautiful coastal town, which is well worth exploring, and the town’s University is the oldest in Scotland – indeed it is the third oldest University in the English speaking world.
